40oz Stainless Tumbler Sublimation Cost

Written by Maya Reeves. Reviewed 2026-04-21.

Blank cost

$9 to $14 depending on supplier and handle style

Retail range

$42 to $65 retail at 55% to 80% margin

Production time

14 to 20 active minutes per tumbler

40oz stainless tumblers entered the mainstream when Stanley went viral. Every craft seller noticed. The 40oz Quencher-style tumbler now sits alongside traditional 20oz and 30oz as a core SKU for tumbler shops. It is heavier, more expensive, and more profitable per unit than the smaller sizes.

The 40oz also separates serious tumbler sellers from casual ones. You need a deeper press or a confident oven workflow, more bubble wrap for shipping, and a buyer base willing to pay $45 to $65 retail. Not every shop should carry 40oz. The ones that do clear $15 to $25 net profit per tumbler, which is roughly double what a 20oz produces.

This page covers cost, retail, production, and material sourcing for 40oz sublimation tumblers. The calculator is pre-filled with typical 40oz numbers.

What a 40oz tumbler actually costs to produce

Blank cost is the main driver. Straight-wall 40oz blanks run $9 to $11 bulk. Stanley-dupe handled 40oz blanks run $11 to $14 because of the handle and the more involved stainless forming. Heat Transfer Warehouse, APBlanks, and Tumbler Envy are the three most common sources for 40oz. Expect longer lead times than 20oz or 30oz, which are more widely stocked.

Ink usage on a 40oz full wrap runs 45% to 55% coverage, or about $1.20 per tumbler on SG500. Paper cost is still one sheet per tumbler at $0.25. Other materials (shrink wrap, heat tape, extra bubble for shipping) run $0.30 per unit because 40oz cracks more in transit and needs extra protection.

Active labor is 5 to 6 minutes prep, 12 to 14 minutes press, 3 minutes pack. Total 20 to 23 active minutes on a single unit. Batched in a convection oven, 15 to 18 per unit. The press time specifically is longer because the larger cup needs more uniform heat and handled models need careful positioning.

Full per-unit cost breakdown

Materials $11.75 (blank $10, paper $0.25, ink $1.20, other $0.30). Labor $8.75 on a 21-minute average at $25/hr. Overhead $0.75. Total per-unit cost around $21.25.

At 55% margin retail is $32.94, which feels low for a 40oz. Most 40oz sellers run 70% to 85% margin because buyers pay for the size and perceived value. Retail $40 to $50 on plain sublimation, $55 to $70 on glitter+epoxy. Custom full-wrap bridal pieces can clear $75.

Worked example: pricing a 40oz Quencher-style

Handled 40oz blank at $12. Full wrap design uses 50% coverage ink ($1.20). Paper $0.25. Extra shipping materials $0.35. Materials total $13.80. 5 min prep, 13 press, 3 pack = 21 minutes active. Labor $8.75. Overhead $0.80. Total cost $23.35.

At 75% margin retail is $40.86. List at $44 to $48 on Etsy to cover fees and shipping ($9 to $11 for a 40oz). Net after Etsy fees (11% of $55 gross with $7 shipping) and $10 USPS label is around $12 per sale, or 22% net. Healthy for 40oz.

Add glitter and epoxy and you easily justify $55 to $65 retail at 85% margin. Net clears $20 per sale at that price. This is why serious tumbler shops prioritize 40oz in their product mix.

Where to buy 40oz tumbler blanks

Heat Transfer Warehouse stocks the straight-wall 40oz. APBlanks and Tumbler Envy both carry handled Quencher-style 40oz. SlingShot Blanks and Conde have occasional 40oz runs but lead times can stretch 4 to 6 weeks. For consistent supply, HTW or APBlanks at case quantity is the most reliable option.

Alibaba and Amazon listings of 40oz blanks exist but coating quality is inconsistent. Handled 40oz blanks in particular have sharp forming tolerances and cheap overseas units often have coating issues near the handle attachment point. Stick with named US suppliers for 40oz.
