Blank cost
$2.75 to $4.00 depending on supplier and handle style
Retail range
$17 to $22 retail at 55% to 65% margin
Production time
7 to 10 active minutes per mug
15oz ceramic mugs are the upgrade from 11oz. Same shape, taller, holds a proper coffee-plus-refill. They cost about a dollar more per blank, press a minute longer, and retail $3 to $5 higher than the equivalent 11oz design. For shops with an established mug line, adding 15oz is a low-effort way to increase average order value.
The 15oz is also what you offer when a buyer says "I like the mug but it feels small." Switching the same design from 11oz to 15oz typically bumps conversion on reluctant buyers because the 15oz reads as a real coffee mug, not a small promotional item.
Economics sit between 11oz (tight margin, volume play) and specialty mugs (higher margin, lower volume). Most shops that sell 11oz mugs also carry 15oz as the upgrade SKU.

What a 15oz mug actually costs to produce
Blank cost is $2.75 to $3.75 bulk. Supplier mix is the same as 11oz: Condé, Heat Transfer Warehouse, Sunrise Sublimation. AAA-grade 15oz runs the upper end. Budget 15oz blanks are harder to find; most volume suppliers stock only the mid-to-high grade for the 15oz line.
Ink usage increases because the wrap area is larger. A full-wrap design on a 15oz uses 30% to 35% coverage versus 25% to 30% on an 11oz. Ink cost runs $0.65 to $0.75 per mug on SG500. Paper is the same single sheet at $0.20 (slightly more paper used at 15oz wrap template size).
Press time is 5 minutes active versus 4 on an 11oz. Handle position matters more on a 15oz because buyers judge fit. Prep and pack same as 11oz at 2 minutes each. Total 9 to 10 minutes single, 6 to 7 batched.
Full per-unit cost breakdown
Materials $3.92 (blank $2.90, paper $0.20, ink $0.70, other $0.12). Labor $3.75 on 9 min at $25/hr. Overhead $0.35. Total cost $8.02.
At 55% margin retail $12.43. Most Etsy 15oz listings sit at $17 to $20. Net after fees and $8 shipping label on a $20 sale is $4.50, or 22% net. Healthy for the volume segment.
Worked example: pricing a 15oz gift mug
Blank $2.90, paper $0.20, ink $0.70, other $0.12. Materials $3.92. 2 prep, 5 press, 2 pack = 9 min labor at $25/hr = $3.75. Overhead $0.35. Total $8.02 per mug.
At 60% margin retail $12.83. List at $18 with $7 shipping charged. Gross $25. Etsy fees $2.88. Shipping label $8. Net $6.10, or 24% net. Strong.
For a premium personalized gift mug, list at $22 retail and net bumps to $9.50. Many gift-market sellers run exclusively at the premium tier because gift buyers care about feel and design over absolute price.
Where to buy 15oz ceramic mug blanks
Condé Systems and Heat Transfer Warehouse carry the 15oz in standard white. Sunrise Sublimation offers case-of-24 discounts. SlingShot Blanks has seasonal 15oz runs at competitive pricing but lead times can stretch. For consistent supply, Condé is the default.
15oz handled variants (camper-style, European round-handle) run $1 to $2 more than standard and pair well with themed designs. Stock both standard and one variant to widen your catalog without doubling SKU count.
