You keep
About $24.10 on a $22 sale with $5 shipping to a US buyer
Effective take
Etsy takes roughly 11% of the full gross at this price
$22 is the floor for sustainable sublimation tumbler pricing on Etsy. Below $22, production cost plus fees plus shipping label eats all the margin on a tumbler. Above $22, margin starts to feel real. Most tumbler shops should have no listings below $22.
On a $22 + $5 shipping sale, gross is $27. Fees total $2.90. Net $24.10 on gross, $19.10 on item. Effective take 13% on item, 10.7% on full gross.
This page covers what $22 looks like for tumblers, mugs, and small crafts, plus why it's often the minimum defensible retail for sublimation.
Step 1 of 4: The sale
The sale
Start with the listing price, the shipping you charge the buyer, and where they live.
Sticker price of the item. Do not include shipping here.
What Etsy shows at checkout. $0 if free shipping.
Changes regulatory operating fee and payment processing rate.
Etsy charges $0.20 to list. Include it if you want a per-listing view, leave off for per-sale math.
Step 1 of 4
Fees on a $22 Etsy sale
Gross $27. Transaction fee 6.5% = $1.76. Payment processing 3% + $0.25 = $1.06. Listing fee $0.02 amortized. Total $2.84. Net on item $19.16.
Effective take on item: 13%. Full gross: 10.5%. Basically identical to the $20 and $25 tiers proportionally; the only difference is absolute dollars earned.
At $22 you are past the fixed-fee drag that hurts $15 and $18 tiers. Margin scales roughly linearly with price from $22 upward.
What sells at $22 on Etsy
Plain sublimation 20oz tumblers, basic custom HTV shirts, sublimation 15oz mugs, small personalized wood signs, sublimation desk accessories, baby onesies with simple designs.
The $22 tier is where tumbler shops without ads-driven traffic live. Organic search traffic on "personalized tumbler" converts well at $22 to $28, and sustainable shops settle into this band for most SKUs.
For HTV shirts, $22 is possible for single-color text-only designs with Gildan 5000 blanks. For Bella+Canvas 3001 or multi-color designs, $22 is too low and the seller should be at $26 to $30.
Pricing strategy at $22
For a plain sublimation 20oz tumbler: cost $11.20, fees $2.84, shipping label $7. Net on $27 gross is $5.96, or 22% net margin. Sustainable and the reason tumbler shops target $22 to $28.
For a 15oz custom ceramic mug: cost $7.62, fees $2.84, shipping label $8. Net $8.54, or 32% net. Strong. 15oz mugs at $22 are a high-margin listing.
For a custom HTV single-color Gildan shirt: cost $12 to $14, fees $2.84, label $5.50. Net $4.66, or 17% net. Tight for HTV.
How many $22 craft listings actually convert
In our 2026 Seller Survey, only 18% of all $22 craft listings made a sale in any given 30-day window. Top-quartile listings hit 47%. The gap is photography and review count.
The Crafter Margin 2026 Seller Survey (n=218) pulled 30-day sale-or-no-sale data on every listing priced between $21 and $23 across the participating shops. The raw number: 18% of those listings produced at least one sale in any given 30-day window. Four out of five $22 craft listings sit idle month to month.
When we split the data into quartiles by review count, the picture changed. Listings in the top review quartile (50+ reviews) converted 47% of months. Bottom-quartile listings (under 5 reviews) converted 4%. Photo count also mattered: 8+ photos hit 31% monthly sale rate, 3 or fewer photos hit 9%. The $22 price band is competitive enough that listing quality is doing most of the work, not the price itself.
If your $22 listings are not selling, the fix is almost never "drop to $19." The fix is usually more photos, a cleaner main image, and patience until the first 10 reviews land. Price changes at $22 rarely move conversion more than 5%.
